Moroccan singer OUM will bring her new project Dialddar to Marrakech on October 22, with a 7:00 PM concert at Maison Denise Masson in Bab Doukkala.

The Institut français de Marrakech lists tickets at 100 MAD and describes Dialddar as a new solo project built around original songs in Moroccan darija, with voice and percussion at its core.

The concert is part of a short Moroccan tour that also includes El Jadida, Meknès and Agadir before reaching Marrakech.

A new project built around voice and percussion

According to the Institut français, Dialddar takes a deliberately stripped-back approach. OUM's new album avoids both strings and wind instruments, relying instead on voice and percussion.

Most of the percussion used in the project was made by artisans in Marrakech, giving the show a direct connection to the city's craft traditions as well as its music scene. The instruments are sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity, a characteristic OUM has chosen to preserve rather than eliminate from the sound.

For the live version, OUM is joined by a predominantly female multinational ensemble. The announced lineup includes percussionist Natascha Rogers, vocalists Cynthia Abraham, Lucile Chriqui and Ayda Benslimane, and oud player Yacir Rami.

Practical details

The Marrakech performance is scheduled for Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 PM at Maison Denise Masson, 49 Derb Zemrane, Bab Doukkala.

The listed ticket price is 100 MAD. The Institut français is also offering online ticket purchase through the event page.

For visitors interested in contemporary Moroccan music, the concert offers a chance to hear a project that is closely tied to both Moroccan language and Marrakech-made percussion in one of the Medina's established cultural venues.
