Marrakech’s International Parkour Meetings are in full swing, and today is the easiest day for a visitor to simply turn up and see what the event is about.

The Institut français du Maroc has announced a free Parkour Day at the Institut français de Marrakech this Friday, October 2, from 16:00 to 20:00. The afternoon is open to the public and includes introductory activities, ChaseTag, a tyre challenge and open practice.

Today’s event is free

The October 2 programme runs from 16:00 to 20:00 at the Institut français de Marrakech. Admission is free, and the activity is open from age six.

For someone visiting Marrakech this week, this is one of those small city events that is easy to miss because it is not built around a major tourist venue or headline concert. It is also unusually accessible: you do not need to know the sport, buy a ticket or commit to a full-day programme.

The festival continues through Sunday

The seventh edition of the International Parkour Meetings runs from September 30 to October 4 across several Marrakech locations.

After today’s Parkour Day, the programme continues on Saturday, October 3 with an open practice session in Boukar 1 from 15:00 to 17:00. On Sunday, October 4, the closing session moves to the Anbar neighbourhood from 16:00 to 18:00, combining a clean-up activity with open parkour practice.

Parkour as a way of reading the city

Parkour is often reduced to spectacular jumps in online videos, but the discipline is built around moving through the urban environment efficiently, creatively and with control. The Marrakech meetings use the city itself as the setting, with sessions taking place in parks, neighbourhoods and public spaces rather than inside a conventional sports arena.

That citywide format is part of what makes the event interesting for a visitor. Marrakech becomes more than a backdrop: walls, steps, courtyards and public spaces are approached through movement and observation.
