A new collective exhibition at Marrakech’s Musée Mohammed VI pour la Civilisation de l’Eau is bringing contemporary art into direct conversation with one of Morocco’s most important environmental subjects: water.

Énergies Créatives runs from October 1 to October 30, 2026 and brings together 12 artists around the theme “Water, source of life and creation.”

The exhibition is the first edition of a wider artistic programme designed to connect contemporary creation with environmental and social questions rather than treat the museum simply as a place for technical or historical displays.

Twelve artists, one central subject

The participating artists approach water from different directions, including landscape, memory, symbolism, scarcity and the relationship between people and natural resources.

The exhibition’s curatorial premise is deliberately broad. Water is treated at once as a physical resource, a cultural symbol and a source of artistic language.

That makes the choice of venue especially coherent. The Musée Mohammed VI pour la Civilisation de l’Eau is dedicated to the history, uses and cultural importance of water in Morocco.

Art meets drought and resilience

Organizers have linked the exhibition to wider questions of drought, climate pressure and territorial resilience, issues that are particularly relevant in Morocco.

The aim is not to turn the show into an environmental lecture. Instead, the artists use creative work to open a more emotional and visual conversation about how people relate to water and what happens when that relationship comes under pressure.

A first edition designed to continue

Énergies Créatives is being presented as the first chapter of a continuing programme rather than a one-off exhibition.

The project is organized by ADEPE, an association working across art, culture, ecology, heritage and the environment, with support from public and cultural partners. Organizers say future editions are intended to continue connecting artistic practice with major contemporary issues.

Why this is worth a visit

The Musée Mohammed VI is not always the first cultural stop that visitors think of when planning Marrakech, which is precisely why an exhibition like this is useful.

It gives travelers a reason to visit a museum outside the usual Medina and Majorelle circuit while seeing a contemporary exhibition built around a subject that is deeply connected to Morocco’s landscape, cities and future.

For residents, it also adds a month-long cultural event rather than a single opening-night programme, making it easier to visit on a quieter day.
