Artcurial has confirmed the return of its Un Hiver Marocain auction to La Mamounia on December 30, bringing one of Marrakech’s established end-of-year art-market events back to the palace hotel.

The 2026 edition is particularly notable because it marks the 15th edition of Artcurial’s Majorelle & ses Contemporains sales, with a substantial group of works linked to Jacques Majorelle alongside Moroccan, African and Orientalist art.

Around 20 works by Jacques Majorelle

Artcurial says the first part of the sale will pay tribute to Jacques Majorelle with a group of around twenty works. The section will also include artists such as José Cruz-Herrera and Bernard Boutet de Monvel, as well as nineteenth-century Orientalist names including Frederick Arthur Bridgman, Eugène Girardet, Arthur von Ferraris and Eugène Flandin.

For Marrakech, the Majorelle connection is more than a famous surname. Jacques Majorelle lived and worked in the city, and the garden and studio associated with him later became inseparable from Marrakech’s modern cultural identity.

Moroccan and African modern and contemporary art

The second part of the December sale, Moroccan & African Spirit, will bring together major figures of modern Moroccan and African art.

Artcurial’s announced selection includes Chaïbia Talal, Farid Belkahia, Hassan El Glaoui and Abdelkébir Rabi, alongside artists including Baya, Adam Henein and Jumana El Husseini. The contemporary African section is set to include Barthélémy Toguo, Billie Zangewa, Abdoulaye Konaté and Pascale Marthine Tayou.

The sale takes place at La Mamounia

The auction is scheduled for Wednesday, December 30 at 17:00 at La Mamounia in Marrakech. Artcurial currently lists the sale as a Live Bid event.

For travelers spending the final days of December in Marrakech, the sale adds a serious art-market event to a period already busy with holiday travel, hotel programming and end-of-year cultural activity.

Catalogue closes November 20

Artcurial says the catalogue closes on November 20, giving collectors and owners of relevant works a final window to contact the house about potential consignments before the December sale.
