Goat hide
Light, fine-grained and supple. A natural fit for babouches, small bags and soft accessories.
Sheep hide
Soft to the hand with a gentle drape. Often chosen for light jackets and flexible goods.
Cow hide
Heavier and more structured. Better suited to travel bags, belts, satchels and furniture.

Bab Debbagh is Marrakech’s historic tannery quarter. Hides are cleaned, treated, dried and dyed there before moving through workshops and souk shops. The work is skilled, physical and strongly scented.
How can I tell if leather is good quality?
Check the grain, edges, seams, hardware and balance of the object. Ask what animal hide it is, how it was finished and whether the maker can repair it. A strong smell alone does not prove quality.
