Located in the heart of the Medina of Marrakech, near Place Rahba Kedima and linked to the broader network that includes Souk Semmarine, Souk Zrabi is the city’s principal traditional carpet and rug market. It is one of the most distinctive specialized souks in the medina.
Here, carpets are presented as far more than woven textiles: they embody regional weaving traditions, craftsmanship, and cultural identity across Morocco. Many pieces reflect generations of skills passed down primarily among women weavers from the Atlas Mountains and rural communities. A living tradition of trade
Souk Zrabi has long been a meeting point for carpets arriving from across Morocco. One of its most distinctive customs was the dalala, the traditional open-outcry auction. Professional auctioneers would walk the market, unrolling carpets and calling out bids as merchants competed for the best pieces. While this practice has largely faded, it remains part of the souk’s character and history.
