Marrakech is moving ahead with one of its largest road infrastructure programs in years, centered on a planned outer ring road of roughly 77 kilometers and a series of major roads and engineering structures around the Grand Stade de Marrakech.

The program was discussed during the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council’s October session on October 5. Fresh reporting on the council proceedings puts the estimated overall cost at about 3.798 billion Moroccan dirhams and the implementation period at 2026 to 2029.

For residents and visitors, the important part is not simply the size of the investment. The stated objective is to improve connections around Marrakech, relieve pressure on congested routes and reorganize access around the Grand Stade area as the city continues to expand.

What is planned

The program includes an external ring road around Greater Marrakech, reported at approximately 77.34 kilometers, together with structural roads and new engineering works around the Grand Stade. The road package is intended to create additional routes around the city rather than concentrating traffic on the existing urban network.

Regional officials have also linked the works to improving the approaches and road network surrounding the stadium. Reporting on the project indicates that better connections with the area of the planned new railway station are also part of the wider mobility objective.

What this means for Marrakech

The project should be viewed as a multi-year infrastructure program rather than a road that is about to open. The published timetable runs from 2026 through 2029, and individual components may progress on different schedules.

If delivered as planned, the new ring road could change how through-traffic moves around Greater Marrakech and reduce some pressure on roads inside the urban area. The stadium-related works are also designed to improve access to the northern part of the city during periods of heavy traffic and major events.

MarrakechSouks will follow the project as individual road sections, construction schedules, closures and access changes are officially confirmed. Those practical details will matter more to visitors than the headline investment figure itself.
